Fourteen Falls & Chania Falls day trip
Two sets of falls within an hour or so of Nairobi. Fourteen Falls on the Athi River spreads wide over the rocks; Chania Falls in Thika is tall, loud and right beside a garden for lunch.
Fourteen Falls gets its name from the number of separate streams the Athi River splits into as it drops over a wide rock shelf. In the dry season it can be gentle; after the rains it roars. Local boys may offer to dive from the rocks for a tip. That is up to you.
After lunch we head into Thika for Chania Falls, which falls into a deep gorge and is easier to reach. It is a relaxed day with a lot of photo stops, which is why schools and families like it.
