Sheldrick elephant orphanage
Orphaned baby elephants come running for their milk bottles, then roll in the mud while their keepers tell you each one’s story. One hour, booked in advance, and most people leave wanting to foster one.
The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust nursery cares for elephants orphaned by poaching, drought or conflict with people. The public visit is short and timed. The little ones arrive in a line, guzzle their giant bottles, and then play in the mud while the keepers talk.
The keepers stay with the babies day and night, even sleeping beside them, and you can hear in the way they speak that these are not just animals to them. Visits must be booked ahead and the slots fill up, so we take care of that for you.
