What to pack for a safari

Packing for a safari is mostly about comfort: cool, dusty days, cold early mornings and long stretches in a vehicle. Here is what we suggest to every traveller.
Clothes
- Neutral colours — khaki, beige, olive. Bright colours and dark blue or black can attract insects.
- Layers: a fleece or light jacket for 6am game drives, T-shirts for midday.
- A wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses.
- Comfortable closed shoes for walking around camp.
Gear
- Binoculars — one pair per person if you can.
- A camera with a zoom lens, plus spare batteries and memory cards.
- A power bank: some camps only charge devices at certain hours.
- A small daypack for the vehicle.
Health and documents
- Sunscreen and insect repellent.
- Any personal medication, in your hand luggage.
- Passport and visa documents for trips outside Kenya.
- Travel insurance details.
Soft bags travel better than hard suitcases, especially if your safari includes a light aircraft flight with luggage limits. If you have questions about a specific trip, ask us — we send a packing list with every booking.
