Mount Kenya trek to Point Lenana
Four days up Africa’s second-highest mountain to Point Lenana at 4,985 m, the highest point you can reach without ropes. Porters carry the heavy bags; you carry a day pack and your nerve on summit morning.
The Sirimon route is the one we use most: a gradual climb that gives your body a fair chance with the altitude. You start in forest, walk out onto moorland dotted with giant groundsels and lobelias, and reach the stone huts below the main peaks.
Summit day starts at about 2:30 am. It is cold, slow and quiet — head torches in a line up the scree — and then the sun comes up over the clouds and everyone forgets the last four hours.
Our guides have done this many times. They will turn back with anyone who is unwell; that is the rule on the mountain and we do not bend it.

Will I get altitude sickness?
Headaches and breathlessness are common above 4,000 m. Walk slowly, drink a lot, and tell your guide how you feel. Serious symptoms mean going down — immediately.
Can I hire gear?
Yes: sleeping bags, jackets, gaiters and poles. Tell us what you need and we will have it ready.
