Lake Victoria islands escape: Kisumu, Rusinga, Mfangano & Takawiri
Fly to Kisumu, cross to the islands and slow right down: rock art on Mfangano, sand on Takawiri, sunsets on Rusinga. Western Kenya at its most beautiful.
This is the trip for people who think they have seen Kenya. A short flight takes you to Kisumu, and from there the road and a ferry bring you to Mbita and Rusinga Island, your base.
One day is for Mfangano and its ancient rock art; another for Takawiri’s white beach and a boat out past the bird islands. Evenings are for fish on the grill and the sun going down over the lake. It is relaxed, it is different, and very few travellers get here.
