Kenya’s lake city in a day: Hippo Point and Dunga Beach, the Impala Sanctuary on the shore, the balancing rocks of Kit Mikayi, and fresh tilapia by the water.
Kisumu is relaxed, friendly and built around the lake. We start at Dunga Beach, where fishermen land their catch and boats can take you out to look for hippos. Then the Impala Sanctuary, a small Kenya Wildlife Service park on the shore, and out of town to Kit Mikayi — a striking stack of rocks with a story behind its name.
Lunch is fresh fish by the water. It works as a day on its own, or as the first day of a Lake Victoria islands trip.
