Nairobi Arboretum picnic & tree walk
A century-old collection of trees in the middle of the city, with shaded paths, picnic lawns and monkeys that will check your lunch for you.
The Arboretum was planted in the early 1900s to test which trees would grow well in Kenya. What is left is a calm, shady park off State House Road, with hundreds of labelled species, from indigenous giants to curious imports.
It is perfect for a slow morning with small children, a birthday picnic or a school nature lesson. Our guide does a short tree walk; the rest is lawn time. Keep an eye on your snacks: the Sykes’ monkeys are bold.
