Amboseli & Kilimanjaro views

Big elephant families walking across the plain with Kilimanjaro’s snow-capped peak behind them. It is the photo everyone wants, and early mornings give you the best chance of a clear mountain.

Amboseli is elephant country. The swamps here are fed by water that seeps underground from Kilimanjaro, so even in the dry season there is green grass and water, and the elephants come in their hundreds. Some of the old bulls carry tusks that almost touch the ground.

The mountain is in Tanzania but fills the southern sky, usually clearest at dawn before the clouds gather. Climb Observation Hill for a view over the whole basin.
