Maasai Mara safari

Three days in Kenya’s most famous reserve, in a pop-up roof Land Cruiser with a driver-guide who knows where the lions slept last night. Add a dawn balloon flight if your budget allows.

The Mara is the trip people dream about, and it rarely disappoints. Lions lying in the shade of a lone acacia, elephants crossing the road in front of you, cheetahs on termite mounds scanning the plains. Between July and October the wildebeest migration pours in from Tanzania, and the river crossings are something you will talk about for years.

You ride in a pop-up roof vehicle with a window seat for everyone. Our driver-guides start early, when the cats are active, and stay out as long as the light is good. Choose budget, mid-luxury or high-end accommodation. The game drives are the same; what changes is where you sleep and eat.

Questions travellers ask

Is the balloon worth it?

For many guests it is the highlight. You lift off before sunrise, float over the plains for about an hour, and land for a bush breakfast. Ask us for the current price — it is booked separately.

When is the migration?

Usually July to October, with river crossings most often in August and September. The animals follow the rain, so no date is guaranteed.
